Inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk and other live music sessions produced by independent media outlets, I pitched Scarlet Sessions to the Editors-in-Chief of The Scarlet & Black, the Grinnell College independent student newspaper, before my last semester of college. I saw an opportunity to lead a collaboration between student organizations that would highlight and archive the art of student musicians and touring artists who come to Grinnell’s campus. I was approved to spearhead this media series, and I began my last semester of college in the role of Audio Editor, working to build the series from the ground up. Over three months, we released 13 professional videos on our social media, garnered thousands of views, and most importantly, supported students and our creative community with our hard work and our platform.
